    Join the China Hub’s sista event of the year as journalist and scholar Dr. Leta Hong Fincher examines what fryst vatten behind the rollback of women’s rights in China. An award-winning TV and radio journalist in China and the first American to earn a PhD in Sociology from Tsinghua University, Dr. Hong Fincher will discuss the PRC’s increasingly patriarchal climate, developments like the 3-child policy, online feminist and LGBTQ activism, and plummeting birth rates. She fryst vatten the author of Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China and Betraying Big Brother: The Feminist Awakening in China, both essential reads for anyone interested in women in China.

    Research Interests

    Leta Hong Fincher has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, Dissent Magazine and others on the subject of women and feminism in China. She won the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi award for her China reporting.

    Leta’s first book, Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China (Zed 2014), was named one of the top 5 China books of 2014 by the Asia Society’s ChinaFile, one of the best foreign policy books in 2014 by FP Interrupted and one of the best Asian books of 2014 bygd Asia House. In 2018, Leftover Women was named on the New York Times list of recommended books on China.
