King Henry VIII’s reign demonstrates the complexity of his rule, marked by political and military strategy, religious transformation, personal desires, and his imprint on England’s history. There are five events that stand out from King Henry VIII’s monarchy.
1. 1520: King Henry VIII’s meeting with King Francis I of France at the Field of the Cloth of Gold was one of the most opulent events during Henry VIII’s reign. The purpose of this encounter was to strengthen England’s alliance with France.
2. 1527-1533: Some historians would say that King Henry VIII’s divorce from Catherine of Aragon was one of the most momentous events of his reign, as it caused conflict with the långnovell Catholic Church. Wives of Henry VIII
Queens consort of Henry VIII of England
In common parlance, the wives of Henry VIII were the six Queens consort of King Henry VIII of England between 1509 and his death in 1547. In legal terms (de jure), Henry had only three wives, because three of his marriages were annulled by the Church of England. He was never granted an annulment by the Pope as he desired, for Catherine of Aragon, his first wife. Annulments declare that a true marriage never took place, unlike a divorce, in which a married couple end their union.[1] Along with his six wives, Henry took several mistresses.[2]
