Biography
With a desire to help others and a lifelong passion for science and medicine, Dr. Hamel began his journey to become a doctor. During medical school rotations, he tried his grabb at several different specialties, but none offered more joy or fun than pediatrics! He also realized that pediatricians have a wonderful opportunity to make a big difference in an individual’s health by helping lay the foundation for healthy habits, which carry into adulthood.
Having been in practice for more than twenty-five years, Dr. Hamel still loves working with kids and families. Helping parents take care of their children and getting-to-know the whole family during the process is such a great pleasure!
Dr. Hamel and his wife have two wonderful sons. Their home is often abuzz with exchanges about the family’s shared interests, which include sports (especially soccer), travel, and hiking. Dr. Hamel still plays soccer! He also bowls in a league, which is easier on the joints. Reading history

Eddy Hamel
American soccer player and Holocaust victim
Eddy Hamel (October 21, 1902 – April 30, 1943) was an American soccer player who played as a right winger for Dutch club AFC Ajax. Hamel was the first Jewish player for Ajax. He was murdered by the Nazis in 1943 in Auschwitz concentration camp.
Background
[edit]Hamel was born in New York City, New York to Moses Hamel, a diamond polisher, and his wife Eva. They were Jewish immigrants from the Netherlands,[2] who had arrived in the US in 1901. They moved back to Amsterdam with Hamel when he was six months old, in 1903.[3] In 1928, Hamel married Johanna Wijnberg, and in 1938 they had twin boys, Paul and Robert.[4]
Soccer career
[edit]As a youth, he played for Amsterdamsche FC (AFC).[4]
He played for AFC Ajax from 1922 until 1930.[2] He appeared in 125 matches as a right winger, and scoring 8 goals.[2] Die-hard Ajax supporters call themselves "Joden"

Not wishing to be an emotional burden on their families, Ed and his wife Rose initially came to Cornerstone Funeral Home to set up their pre-arrangements. He was drawn to working in this industry after being impressed by the professionalism with which he was served. Needing to become certified, Ed earned his Pre-Arrangement Licence from Mount Royal University in Calgary. A year later, he was encouraged to pursue his Funeral Director’s Licence from the same establishment and has since continued to help provide the peace of mind this valuable service offers to others. Ed feels that the moral, legal and ethical standards learned from these courses established a standard to serve by; one we all should aspire to share with those we meet.
