Croatian playwright
Tena Štivičić (pronounced[tɛ̝̌ːnaʃtîv̞itʃitɕ]; born 1977) is a Croatianplaywright and screenwriter. She won the 2014-2015 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
Early life and education
[edit]She was born in Zagreb where she studied at the Academy of Dramatic Art. She completed an MA in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths College, University of London.[1]
Career
[edit]She has taken part in theatre events such as Future Perfect, the Paines Plough Young Writers Programme and the Royal Court's 50th Anniversary season. Štivičić has written plays both in her native Croatian and in English.
Her major works in English include: Can't Escape Sundays, Perceval, Psssst, Two of Us, Goldoni Terminus, Fragile!, and Fireflies. Her plays have been produced in at least ten European countries. Fragile!, directed by Matjaž Pograjc and produced by Mladinsko Theatre, has won several awards at festivals in Croatia and Slovenia.

Tena Štivičić was born in Zagreb, Croatia.
In 2002, she graduated from the Academy of Drama Art, Department of Dramaturgy, Zagreb. The following year Tena moved to the United Kingdom and continued her studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London. After obtaining a Masters Degree, she was invited to Switzerland on a six-month writing residency in Canton Bern.
Tena’s first play was the award-winning Can't Escape Sundays. Written during her third year at the Academy, it was produced at Zagreb’s internationally renowned ZKM Theatre. Following numerous stage, radio productions and publications in various European countries, it remains one of her most produced plays to this day.
The Two of Us, the play she graduated from the Academy with, was first produced in 2003 at the legendary Atelje 212 Theatre, Belgrade. It was the first new Croatian play to be performed on a Belgrade scen since the break-up of Yugoslavia.
