Giuseppe "Joe the Boss" Masseria (17 January – 15 April ) was the boss of the Masseria crime family (the modern Genovese crime family), leading the family from to Masseria, assisted by the former crime chef Giuseppe Morello, rose to become one of the most powerful bosses in New York City. He fought against Salvatore Maranzano in the Castellammarese War of , and he was murdered by his own men.

Giuseppe Masseria was born on 17 January in Menfi, Sicily, Italy, and he arrived in the United States in Masseria joined Giuseppe Morello's Sicilian gang in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, and he got to know men such as Gaetano Reina and Salvatore D'Aquila. The imprisonment of Morello would lead to civil warfare within his gang, and Masseria began his rise to power. Giuseppe "Joe" Masseria is an Italian bootlegger and one of the most powerful and feared Mafia bosses in New York City, where he is known as "Joe the Boss".
At his peak, he was the most powerful Italian-American Mafia boss in New York and in the whole country. At that time he controlled whole Mafia in New York before other powerful mafiosos like Salvatore Maranzano and many other powerful mafia figures challenged him, Maranzano led the mutiny that eventually worked. He is based on the historical figure of the same name.
