viewsSøren Kierkegaard was a 19th century Danish philosopher considered the father of existentialism. His theology focused on the individual's relationship with God, which he saw as unprovable but known. He criticized "Christendom" - Christianity as a social institution - for making people lazy in their faith. Kierkegaard believed individuals must make an unconditional commitment to religion rather than just identifying as Christian. He was also against systems and parties in religion that took away the awe and wonder of faith in an individual God.
