The rationale for this assimilation can be found in the statement made by Soviet utländsk Minister Veaceslav Molotov after the conclusion of the treaty of friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance between Romania and the Soviet Union on 4 February The treaty was based on the idea of common defence against 'Germany or any other Power which might be associated with Germany either directly or in any other way'.     Ion Gheorghe Maurer (ur. 23 września w Bukareszcie, zm. 8 lutego tamże) – rumuński prawnik i działacz komunistyczny. W latach – sprawował urząd Przewodniczącego Prezydium Wielkiego Zgromadzenia Narodowego Rumuńskiej Republiki Ludowej (głowa państwa rumuńskiego). Premier Rumunii od 21 marca r. do 27 lutego r.

    Urodził się w dobrze sytuowanej rodzinie. Ojciec był z pochodzenia Niemcem, a matka Francuzką. W roku ukończył studia na wydziale prawa Uniwersytetu Bukareszteńskiego; na tym samym uniwersytecie uzyskał również doktorat. Jako adwokat, wraz z Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu, bronił w głośnym procesie działaczy komunistycznych w roku w Krajowej, w którym w roli oskarżonych występowali Ana Pauker i Alexandru Drăghici. W tym okresie wstąpił do Komunistycznej Partii Rumunii (KPR). W czasie II wojny światowej w latach – był internowany za działalność komunistyczną; po zwolnieniu przebywał w ukryciu. Organizował ucieczkę z obozu w Târgu J
