ROHTAK: In a paradoxical coincidence, India's newest beauty queen -Femina Miss India Kanishtha Dhankar – hails from Jhajjar district in Haryana which has recently shot into infamy for having the worst sex ratio in the country at 774 girls per 1000 boys in the Census 2011 figures.
Though she was born in Mumbai when her father Raj Singh Dhankar, a commodore in the Indian Navy was posted there, she is a resident of the Kasni village of Jhajjar district. Belonging to a family with Defence background, she has been very close to her grandparents who live in the ancestral house in the village.
Kanishtha's father, who got selected in the NDA after passing out his 10+2 from the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jhajjar told the Times of India from Delhi that theirs had been a joint family of two brother and parents. While parents are living in the village, they too occasionally visit the Kasni village.

ROHTAK: In a paradox of sorts, Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2011 Kanishtha Dhankar belongs to Jhajjar district of Haryana, which has the worst sex ratio in the country — 774 girls per 1000 boys — according to the Census 2011 figures.
Though she was born in Mumbai when her father Raj Singh Dhankar, a commodore in the Indian Navy, was posted there, the family belongs to Kasni village of Jhajjar district.
Speaking to The Times of India over phone from Delhi, her father, Raj Singh, who joined the NDA after completing plus two from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jhajjar, said they had strong roots in their village. ‘‘My father Maturam Dhankar and mother Chawli Devi live in our ancestral house there. My brother, who too is in the Navy, and my family go there often with our children,’’ he said.
