    • SATI takes viewers on a journey through 19th-century Bengal, weaving fiction with historical inspiration. The film, based on Kamal Kumar Majumdar's story, captures the essence of the era's oppressive Brahmanical ways and religious practices.

Aparna Sen widened the range and scope of her oeuvre through films like this, a burning portrayal of the pernicious consociation of the patriarchal system and superstitions to victimize women. No wonder why Sen is to Bengali cinema what Agnès Varda is to the world cinema.
